I Am The Child

I am the child that demystifies love,
Because I am of my own race,
I am the child that shows the power of love,
The child that proves the depths and heights of love,
Because I kill racism at my sight,
I am the child that is neither black nor white
I am that child who cannot boast of black kinky hair
Or dwell in the grace of long silky hair
I am the child that proves religion doesn’t kill love
The one who proves love rises above the feet of the gods

I am the child of a Buddhist and a Christian
I am the child of a Jew and an Islam
I am the child whose mum anchors news on TV
Whose dad interpretes speech in signs for those of his kind
Those that hear nor speak not
I am a child of a love that chose not to see disability
I am the child of a love that cracked down walls of societal class
Whose father enjoyed wealth nobles see as ordinary
Whose mother was less than a peasants daughter
I am the child that can never be tribalistic,
Because I am born of two antagonizing tribes
I am the child with no mother
Because I have dads
The child with no father
Because I have mums
I am the child of the forbidden love
I am the child that proves the power of love.

I am the child…
